Oh yes, so very sad, I am not sure why being tight faced and big lipped is so appealing in Hollywood, they all look like a charicature of their former selves.Meg Ryan use to have the perfectly little impish face. Now I would not even recognize her without the caption. Another sad one is Pricilla Presley. Two beautiful faces gone BAD!!! So very very sad,Kathysue

I am! what was she thinking?

I remember when I first some her new look a couple of years ago. I was aghast, as was my husband. He kept saying, "She looked great. Why? Why?" It's the Hollywood machine. It gets in your head, tells you your old and you need work on your face. What a shame. (Yeah, I can't believe she and Mellencamp are dating. Who knew?)

Sadly, Hollywood is a cruel place to grow old. It's utterly ruthless and unforgiving, people are mere commodities.
I once considered plastic surgery but after I have seen what these multimillionaires look like after all the big money they spent on the highest paid plastic surgeons in the world...eh, I have changed my mind.
I'll stick to yoga and aging gracefully, thankyouverymuch!

yes, so very sad indeed. and what's even more sad is that too much damage has been done to reverse it all. poor Meg

I truly don't understand why they do these awful procedures to themselves. What happened to aging naturally? Meg Ryan was so adorable before she started with the lip injections. Ridiculous! I live in the Los Angeles area and have seen many stars that are aging naturally and I have to applaud them. I know they feel pressured to do it, to get that next big show or movie - but nothing is that important to me that I'd be willing to look like a freak. Priscilla Presley as the main example.

It is so sad. She was so beautiful just the way God made her.

I don't get it either. What's up with John Mellencamp anyway? After 18 years with Elaine Irwin, then bam, into the arms of plastic lipped Meg Ryan? Weird.

I know right?!? I adored her fresh-faced, girl-next-door persona, who knows what happened to her....

It's so sad. I remember the very first time I saw her was on the soap opera "As The World Turns". She was so young at the time and was cute and charming. I loved watching her through the years, develop into an amazing actress. I was so sad when she changed her look a couple of years ago.

Yes it is sad! I guess Hollywood is a cruel harsh place where women have to constantly try to look younger and younger. When in reality they look scary! Traci

Why Meg...why!!???
So surprised about the Mellencamp connection...Elaine still rocks, such a "natural" beauty!

Does anyone else ever wonder why stars, be it from movies or music, don't seem to ever learn from their characters or songs??

Great post Pam!

Kudos to the stars who grow old gracefully. Not to say Lauren Bacall and Meryl Streep might not have had a little nip and tuck, but they didn't go for drastic and weren't trying to look 16 again.

I have often thought of botox. But since it is only temporary, I have changed my mind. In my head I am 40 or so,but the mirror does not lie. Meg ryan was so cute. I think she would be cute even with wrinkles. Don't understand the lip thing. I have a friend who has done that and it looks wrong. judy

One of my favorite movies is Youve Got Mail!;) I think it is sad that so many women feel the need to be "perfect" and it makes them end up a perfect mess! I really feel bad for her now.I miss seeing her in leading roles too. Hugs,Rachel

I know, I was thinking the same things..., so sad. She kind of made a clown of herself. Who knows why.

She has to know she looks awful...It's so sad when women try so desperately to hang on to their 20's and 30's. Who doesn't look at old photos and think, dang..I looked good, only to go be driving the kids home from lacrosse and catch a glimpse in the rear view mirror and gasp in horror. Aging is tough but I wouldn't trade one "laugh line". They make me me and my husband (GOD love him)and my kids love me just as I am. I hope Meg Ryan has that peace someday.

Why on earth do they do it Pam.....d they really think that they look good ? They just look weird and they all look the same. It's really getting 'Stepford Wives' isn't it ?
When I look at Helen Mirren and Judy Dench, they still look lovely but are ageing gracefully. I think that there is so much competition to look young to get the parts, that they will try anything.
I went off Meg when she was on ' The Michael Parkinsn Show ' over here. He asked her quite ordinary questions, nothing probing, but, she wouldn't answer any of them...... it was really quite embarrassing. In a few years, there are going to be a great many famous people, looking weird and awful and their careers over.Somene should tell them !!!! XXXX

Guess the trouble is partially Hollywood and partially her. They are some actresses/ actors who accept getting older and therefore the older characters in the new movies. Their career gets older with them but there are the rest who don't want/don't know how to act the older characters so they change their face. The saddest one of all I think is Goldie Hawn. All said, I don't think I'll ever get bored of watching Sleepless in Seattle or You've Got Mail over and over and over again :)

She really does have that 'Startled Deer in the Headlamp' look going big time. Never been a Meg fan, maybe she & Priscilla Presley could get a 2 for 1 deal at the one Hollywood Plastic Surgeon who actually reverses previous Horrendoplasties. It would do them both a power of good.

P.S. My big 55 is coming on Sunday - ouch! But a nip & tuck isn't on my agenda. Love me, love my character lines.

Why do these people want to look like each other?
They all end up looking worse instead of better when they have all that stuff done.

Pam...heart breaking to see people change their looks to the point that they are unrecognisable. I am hoping that Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep hold out...that would truly be a shame.

Until I read the first few comments I had no idea who this was!
What a pity as she had the sort of face that would have aged rather superbly!

First...no plastic surgery PERIOD. I am 54 and intend on aging gracefully, I don't want to be an old lady trying to look young, I earned every wrinkle and I love the wisdom that comes with getting older. The bottom line for Hollywood or otherwise, is people (especially women) are not happy on the inside and think if the outside looks younger that will make them happy. NOT. Love what you have. God doesn't make mistakes.
Great conversation Pam!

It really does sadden me when I see pictures of Meg nowadays.I used to adore her and I still post about her older films on my blog but I can't even bring myself to watch her recent movies.
What on earth was she thinking ?

They just showed Kate and Leopold on TV the other night and her lips looked pretty "collagened up" in that one too! She is TOOO cute to be messing with herself like this! ARG! What happened to women in the film industry aging gracefully? They will still get roles.

TOTALLY agree!
Ugh, the plastic surgery is TERRIBLE! You'd think after the first time she messed up her lips she would have stopped... now the eyes, the cheeks, the lips, everything is OFF.
INCLUDING the new love interest who was still with his wife when they seemed to have started up their relationship. GROSS.
Ahhh, when life was simple and she was cute and Sleepless in Seattle...

I think it would be SO awkward to see yourself different in the mirror like this after plastic surgery. I bet she misses her old face :(

Wow can see this post got a big response! Its unreal how Goldie has taken such a pretty face that was so naturally pretty and natural and turned it into a freakish looking face. Don't get it! Then you have Meg Ryan, who pretty much did the same though maybe not quite as extreme. Sad is it the vanity of Hollywood that gets the best of them? I don't know but I for one am glad I am not a part of that rat race.
Such ashame to see two beautiful women butcher their faces that way.
Hollywood does not make it easy for women to grow old the old fashioned way...gracefully :(

On a happier note, have a new blog, please visit me! Would love to know what you think...thanks! I think you will like it.
