emma and the dream chairs...

once upon a time i watched a movie called emma. i loved everything about it. in fact, i have watched it at last 3 more times and find it so darling each time for different reasons... the humor, the most amazing costumes (i always wanted to be edith head when i was growing up) the romance and the sets.

one of my favorite scenes is when emma and her father are talking in his study... lounging in the most
amazing wingback chairs i have ever seen. (for those of you who know me well i have a serious addiction
to the wingback chair.)

for years i have hunted for the perfect pair that would most resemble those seen in the movie...

one day a wonderful woman asked if i would mind coming to see a few pieces of furniture that she
and her husband had for sale... i did go and as she showed me around the house, i spotted the loveliest
pair of chairs in their breakfast room. when i asked about them she responded... "oh those are not for sale"as they sat in them daily... my heart sank... i knew those were the chairs i had been longing for...

so i politely mentioned as i left the home... "if you ever decide to sell the wing chairs, i would be interested in purchasing them". and off i went.

years later... still thinking of the chairs, i received a letter in the mail one day from the woman asking if i would still be interested in purchasing the chairs... as you can imagine... i was in disbelief!

i made a call... went to see her, paid her, and had them delivered to my upholsterer.

at least a year has gone by as i have been busy with clients projects and undecided on the "perfect"
fabric for the chairs... until recently... unearthing my favorite grey-white french vintage linen.

santa had them at red ticking when i returned from my holiday...

oh happy day... xx

pam, wonderful lines on those chairs - it pays to speak up, doesn't it? is that a monogram in the back? too lovely. friends of mine who are antique shop owners always recover their wonderful old pieces with monogrammed antique linens that leave me drooling. I guess you're keeping these? donna

Oh, Santa did good! They are gorgeous and I love the Emma reference - on of my favorites, too. Do you think there might be more of that fabric or something like it for my pair of wing backs? XO
