grainsacks over? oh no...

customers come into my store and buy the vintage european grainsacks we have for sale nearly everyday.

some know what they are, others ask what they are...
and then there are those who say...
"aren't these over"?

whenever someone asks that question about anything i just tell them "buy what you love".
i seem to say it over and over but if you like something... who cares?
live with what you love..

and this bed? to die for...
i would like to say, it aint over till its over.
and these have been around for centuries... they are not going anywhere. ever.

Hi there Pam,
Well, they are certainly not over in my house. I LOVE them. I've had a chair covered in them, I have cushions and curtains. I would even wear it, if you make me a coat out of them !!
.... and, that bed is AMAZING !! XXXX

The ones who say that are the ones who are late to the party, but still want to make sure their invitation is valid.

What do I know, I'm late to every party.

It's over for those that want to jump onto the next "decorating" bandwagon... but for those that want to build their own "design" style, the grain sack should be looked at like a great fabric with a lot of character. Design is an evolution process, which doesn't require total elimination in order to keep things fresh. That is what makes European homes with their sense of layering of history so inviting...

I have been collecting grain sacks for ten years...before they became so popular...it will never be over for me! :)

Maybe not over it's just the rush of press about them has subsided somewhat.

I still love grain sacks but I think that when a trend hits large retailer like Restoration Hardware, it does seem to dilute integrity. Read this:

You are giving people wise advise...there is absolutely no way buying what you love will ever go out of style!
The fabric and the bed look beautiful together...pairing fancy french and rustic french is brilliant! xo

I often wonder if once something goes retail- I mean PB and RH does it mean that the real thing has lost it's meaning? I think that if you buy something you love that is what really matters- and remember your house can change with you- if you buy quality pieces they will last as long as you need them to.

I'm with you, Pam. If you love it, it never goes out of style, right? I'm so slow on the trend front, I only just discovered them, and now people are saying they're over? It's just too exhausting to keep up! I love them and probably always will:) Meredy xo.

{SWOON!} That bed is AMAZING. I would love to get my hands on some of this fabric for a few projects that I have on my plate. As you say, it's been around forever and has STAYING power. It can be classic or fresh and bold, muted or stand-out. So so
pretty! xx P&H

A big High Five to you dear Pam! According to the kids MOTH went 'out' years ago, but I still want him around the house, a bit like that lovely grain sack fabric.

i like your response! i agree, but what you love and it will always look good. buy what you think is in for the sake of it being in, and it will never look right!

Love the bed. Fantastic idea to use two colors together.
The "trend" of using grainsacks may be winding down, but those who truly love that look didn't just hop on the bandwagon. Toile was a "trend" a few years ago. Then damasks were everywhere on everything. Yet both are classics that have been around for, what?, centuries? Using what you love, regardless of "trendiness" will never be out of fashion.

no no no no no.....they are so lovely, in my opinion those grainsacks are one of the most versatile ways to decorate, I honestly think they have a place in almost anyone's home, no matter what the decor.
