buy local

since i was a little girl i have loved strawberries.
my dear grams always had them in her house and made wonderful things with them... they were her favorite so they became my favorite... and every time i eat one, i always think of her.

my boyfriend and i were driving up hwy 101 and happened upon one of our favorite farm stands and i picked up some amazing produce. ( i know, leaving on a plane the next day what in the world am i doing shopping in california when i live in seattle?) well that is what i do.

i came upon the bundles of joy... all nestled tightly in their little baskets... "local strawberries".
i had to buy them... i could have purchased the whole flat... but instead, i carried one basket and a bunch of other things (that i knew i could get on the place skins intact) to the check out and to this day, i have never had better strawberries...

it takes so little to make me happy...
i am learning as i grow older...
enjoy every moment.
happy sunday xx

is there anything better than a rich, plump, ripe, strawberry still warm from the afternoon sun?

"Sweet" story...those lucious strawberries were speaking to you and you answered...Gods handmade *simple* things always seem to be the most soul satisfying and bring the truest joy.

Skagit strawberries are right around the corner....:)

I always look forward to strawberry season. They can be used for so many delightful deserts and salads.

I live in an area surrounded by rich farmland and we do get the best strawberries and local produce here. The farmstands are always so fun to go and visit. Nothing like freshly picked berries. Yum!! I hope you enjoyed your visit in Calif. Sorry it rained while you were here. Kathysue

Hi Pam . . . Wow, I just found an old, metal strawberry cart with crate and waxed boxes. Took me back to my childhood, strawberry-picking days at Klicker Brothers in Walla Walla. There is nothing that beats the succulent berries we picked in the Blue Mountains above the valley . . . seem to recall we threw a few at each other too! ;-)

We were on vacation in CA a week ago and I never had such fresh vegetables/fruit. Everything is grown there and not shipped in like it is in New England. Happy Sunday!! xo

I know just what you mean. I am waiting for our strawberries, because there is no better treat, than a berry from the garden - that is ripe and delicious! I have to get down to your shop one day!!

Sounds like a perfect day to me! I do that too - I've said to my husband I would love to visit the farmers market on vacations and he always tells me - yes but you're going home tomorrow!

There's nothing better than strawberry picking with kids! I have wonderful memories of taking my kids strawberry and blueberry picking when they were little!

Oh yes, juicy ripe strawberries!! I hope I get some from my patch this year - last year the birds did better than I did :)

Isn't it magic how this little red thing can bring such pleasure.....and joyful feelings.

Now it's time to plan for the garden and the summer here in Sweden and strawberries have a special place, always!

Take care,

What is more perfect that a freshly picked strawberry, still warm from the sun, preferably. There is nothing better than local produce.

I have a similar shopping style, an airplane ride is no barrier for me when I find something I love!

The shot of the mayday baskets is so sweet. We used to make them for all the neighbors when I was growing up, and my kids did it for years. What a good idea to do it for our friends -- next year! Really beautiful photos!!

I love strawberries too. I can eat punnets and punnets of them no troubles.
