ok, i admit, sometimes i eat a bite or two... i never eat the whole piece. fruitcake intrigues me and i always enjoy the "bite". i am a dean and deluca addict and receive emails and catalogs from them all the time. i scan and drool and when i saw these i thought.... i might eat a whole piece... or two!

A really good booze-soaked fruitcake is fantastic actually. In my family we always make poppyseed bread (like a jelly roll) for Christmas morning. I adore it. The recipe's here.
My favorite is fudge. Not a fancy recipe just the simple, old one from the jar of marshmallow creme by Kraft. My mom made it 50 years ago & it is still is a family favorite. That & German coffee cake. I'm always fascinated by Fruitcake & if anyone actually likes it? It's such an abused baked good! Happy pre-holiday weekend to you x
Only one fruit cake was made in 1947, it has gone around the world many times now, still intact as no one ever eats a piece of it. :) It's pretty but I have never liked them.

My grandmother always had fruitcake at her house. As a little girl I thought it was terrible, but now I think I might like a bite or two especially if it has been soaked! I make and really think Pumpkin Tea Bread is so yummy, it's one of my faves.

When I saw your post on fruitcake...I giggled...I have never tried fruitcake and almost purchased one at the market today! I try to make something new every year...but my favorite thing is something that my mother has made since I was a girl...cococut orange cookies. YUM!

Hi Pam. I wanted to stop in and tell you how much I appreciate the sweet post you left me. It brought tears to my eyes to read it and know that someone who doesn't know me felt moved to tell me that. I am so touched that you went out of your way to Wish me a Merry Christmas because of the comment you saw. It amazes me how the Lord works. I've been feeling very lonely and quite blue this season. We didn't decorate for Christmas and it's my favorite holiday. So you can imagine what your message meant to me. THANK YOU! By the way I love my Mothers fudge. It was cooked the old fashion way, stirred and stirred until no longer glossy and not soft like most of the fudge you find now.

I have to say fruitcake is not a family favourite...we like things with so much fat and sugar in them..shame on us. I have eaten my self silly this past week..way too many cookies and not enough exercise time. My grandmother made a fantastic fruitcake... she converted many a hater. My favorite Christmas-only treat is Magic Cookie Bars... so fantastic and fattening and way too easy to make (that's why they're "Christmas-only"!).

Hands-down my most favourite Christmas goodie is Christmas pudding. For some reason I can't come at fruit cake, but adore pudding. Such similar ingredients, but to me, a world apart in taste. Weird. Mince pies would come a close second. Hope you're enjoying the lead up to Christmas. Meredith xo.

I love fruitcake - I know most people are gagging, but I do love it. I've been eating sugar cookies for three weeks now, and I can still eat more. I plan on making a bread pudding for Christmas eve - we will see how that goes. It's really all about the rum sauce. My South Dakota grandmother made her famous brandy-soaked fruitcake each & every Christmas. My grandfather would wrap the cakes within an inch of his life, and post them to family & friends in the US & Denmark (our 'old country'). When grandmother developed ALS, my uncle forced her to reveal her recipe so he could continue the tradition. In June, my uncle died suddenly. This Christmas is the first in 45 years without the family fruitcake, and I miss it, and them, dearly.
