now you see it....

now you don't...

i have just sold this piece from my home and now facing a HUGE task of having to
decide if i toss or keep the magazines i have been collecting for years.
(and these are well pared down... trust me!)

so... over the next week i will sit and edit... and edit... and hope i dont regret it one day.
honestly... i have not touched these in a year + so will i really miss them?

martha will never be the same... how can i toss her first issues? and all of the cote series, vogue living and living etc australia that i adore.. not to mention house and garden.... eeekkk.

i am editing my home and the new piece coming in will function differently.

please help friends... i need a support system!

Oh Pam, such a dilemma!!! I'm a saver - Mr. H is so over it, yet he saves all his National Geographics- and some times think I should toss 'em all! But I can't do it!!! Good luck!

Save the important ones and make files of pictures you tear out of other ones. You'll feel good about purging!!

I'm afraid I can't help. I still have all the Country Living, Country Home, Mary Engelbreit and Mary Emmerling (not many of those!) issues plus others that I like. Some day.....

I have an armoire full of British Edition COuntry Living magazines and old Cottage Living and Home Companion issues. Have you ever heard of scanalog? Maybe you and I should both try it! :D

HI Pam
this is a timely post.. I JUST threw out approx 10 boxes of magazines.. and more so of books.. It was sooo sad... but.. liberating.. and in honesty I didn't have a choice as I had stored them in a garage and they had become festy...But I did similar some years ago.. magazines from my teenage years.. vogue.. house & garden etc... and regretted having thrown them until faced with the same issue all these years later.. I've managed to hold on to some of my favourites... an Australian Magazine and one Cote Sud... but suspect they will go soon.. I can always reorder the aussies ones in the future.. but right now need to radically downsize..

I've never really been a 'tearer' but think I will have to go that way in the future..

Have fun making your decision.. but when you do.. just go with it ... ciao xxx Julie

Oh, I feel your pain!! I am a big saver. HAD the first Colonial Homes, Southern Accent, Traditional Home, Martha, Country Home, Veranda, etc...but it was time. I think about them every once in awhile but 'out-of-signt, out-of-mind!' And it is cathartic!
Never the less...I do feel your pain!
Be brave!

I am with you on trying to decide. We are moving out of state again soon...and the last couple of times we have done it - the movers look at you like you are crazy when they have to pack up box after box of magazines. But I always felt like there are so many good things in them, and I have them if I want to look through them.
For this move though I have been purging since I find so many of my inspiration pictures online now. I still have all of my Dominos and Cottage Livings though!

Keep the first Martha's Pam!!! You'
re so right, Martha will never be the same and the old ones are so special. Keep the ones that speak to you...there's always room! I have found great ways to store my mags...I'll share in an email!
Although...now that i think about it, since we're still half moved in, many are in boxes...but, when the time comes, they will have a special home (I'd be more than happy to babysit any you're not sure about if you like)!

(If your lilac's are still blooming...I discovered some awesome recipes using them...we could do a little experimenting!) :)

Oh Pam....it just has to be done I'm afraid. Actually, when you look back at some of the earlier ones they look really old-fashioed. Perhaps you should just keep a few of the earliest ones ....you never know, they could be worth something one day !!
My sister has every single one of Country Living UK since it began in 1978 !!!! XXXX

Easy solution...research prices on back issues, then list them on eBay or Amazon.com. Be up to speed on shipping terms. If there are issues highly sought after, then consider including them in a lot of a dozen or half dozen to move volume. On eBay you can have a Me page that I think can link to your blog. Free advertising while you make money...Good deal, imo.

I'm currently facing the same problem! I have tons of magazines and I know I should throw them out or sale them at a garage sale but how does a pack rat "just" throw away stuff?! I don't want to tear them out either because I feel I will ruin the magazine :( I do hope you share what you decide to do as it may inspire me to do the same!

I say dump them! I used to save them, sorting them all seasonally...thought being that I would be looking for ideas that way. Once Martha went on line I threw all of those out. The rest I tore out the pages I loved and filed them, the bulk I discarded. I just don't have the room for old mags and I feel there is so much available on line now...good luck. I have never regretted the purge.

I got rid of all mine and now I wish I would have saved some of them.

Pam: I was going through some boxes the other day looking for a book. I came upon my cherished House & Garden magazines from the second time around (after they were shut down and brought back to life again). I thought I had tossed them and when I found them my heart skipped a beat!
